Jour 92 - Marseille et Aix en Provence :3

November 20th, Sunday

After our crazy train rides, we finally made it to Marseille! :) We got to Marseille around 10 in the morning feeling happy. So relieved that after _ days of not showering, we would be able to do so :)) The sun was shining so we were thrilled to be in the South of France!

The metro in Marseille is super easy to use. There are only two directions :))

Vieux Port was the station nearest to our hostel. Did you see the fish tank? That fish tank is located in this metro station :)

We stayed in Vertigo Hostel :) It's actually one of the famous hostels here in Europe. Check out its reception area!

I must say it's actually the cleanest and nicest hostel I've gone to :)

After checking in, we went around the Port area! Even though it was a Sunday we were happy to see the shops open!!

We wanted to try bouillabaisse but the restaurant was still closed. So we were all up for having our first lunch - sushi! Haha. One thing I noticed in Marseille - there was so many sushi bars in one area! It's sad though that the French are only fascinated with sushi and not other Japanese dishes. :))

Kwi was actually in Marseille last week and she was so willing to go back with Cam and I. So she was our instant tour guide around the city. She brought us to the sushi place she went in last time! Look look look: it's the revolving sushi machine! :D

The price of each dish was according to the color of its plate. I got the yellow plates because they were the second cheapest :)) Pretty good stuff still but how I miss sushi back in Manila. Shinjuku!!!! :/

After our first lunch, we went back to L'Entrecote du Port to check on our reservation. We got to the area late so we had to wait for another hour. That hour gave us time to go around the area and do some little shopping in the city's Christmas market!

These macarons may look edible but they're actually perfume diffusers! :)

savon de Marseille <3

We saw a group of old ladies in costumes! Haha

We also passed by the Arabian market to buy spices :)

Our basket full of spices :))

Honey!

Okay so finally after an hour, we got back and the manager of the restaurant was able to give us a table! :) We got two dishes - bouillabaisse and entrecote. I actually expected a lot for the bouillabaisse. It wasn't as good as what I was hoping it to be. The fishes they used here had a lot of bones and they were overcooked so yeah ugh :/ The soup was good though!

Our soup came along with this appetizer :)

The entrecote was really good though. The sauce tasted like that sauce Kwi used to make for our steaks! The fries were also really good! Thin and crispy!

After our second lunch, we decided to walk some more around the center to look for local creations.

And again, we entered this shop for the nth time to get samples of their delicious cookies! :))

By the afternoon, we agreed to check out Aix en Provence since a lot of people have told us that that place is nice to see. We hopped in a regional train and we got to Aix by around 5 pm.

We were lucky because we got to Aix just in time for the Christmas market! :) I felt like I was in a fairy tale!

I'm actually feeling the spirit of Christmas already :3

The girls and I were brave enough to try savory macarons. Bottom line: BAD IDEA. My tasted really bad. I got chevre and I wanted to throw up @_@

To cleanse our palette, we opted to buy croustillons

Aaaw cute! Kids riding Santa's magical sleigh!

While we were walking, bird poop suddenly landed on Kwi's jacket! Good thing it was easy to remove it and good thing the poop didn't land on my jacket! It would have been so hard to remove it :/

The south of France really feels warmer than the north :)
