Jour 49 - And The Adventure to Lucerne Continues!

October 8th, Saturday

We got to Gare de Lyon by around 6:30. We went to the ticket office and asked if there were still seats for Lucerne. The ticket lady that talked to us crushed our hearts by saying that there are no available seats left! :( Good thing Aira was persistent to go!! She suggested that we fall in line again. This time around a guy was talking to us. He said there are really no available seats he can give BUT we should try to talk to the manager of the train and ask if we could still ride the train and the pay the reservation fee inside.

We waited for the 8:10 departure...

Did you see the cat on top of the shoulder of that old lady? OMG. Can I just share? The lady was so freaky! She talked and kissed the cat! She even scolded the cat!!!! @_@ And placed her inside her purse and closed it. So so weird. The waiting area in Gare de Lyon was a bit scary. As usual, we were beside hobos and crazy people.

So after waiting, we went to the platform and looked for the manager. When he started talking! IT WAS THE BEST NEWS EVER!!! He allowed us to go inside with a reservation fee of 10EUR :) :) :) Here's a video to explain further!

We had to celebrate.. so we bought Tiramisu with Speculoos from the bar of the train!

It was sooooo good we were so tempted to get more :P

TOUCHDOWN: Geneva! We had to take a regional train from Geneva to Lucerne :)

Why hello pretty train!

The bad part of getting to Lucerne this day was that it was raining :| Imagine, it was about 9 degrees outside and it was raining pa. So if one includes the wind from the rain, it's about 6 degrees :| That's why I was wearing gloves the whole time! I didn't want to freeze to death.

We got to our hostel, Twins Minbank, and I found out that it was partly owned by a Korean lady. It's cute how they have this slipper-all-around policy. To maintain cleanliness in the hostel, guests are required to wear slippers.

This is the most modern hostel I've been to.

In the walls of the hostels were posters of all sorts!!

We had complementary tea! :) Kwi saw cream and she taught me how to make milk tea. I got so addicted to it that I drank about 3-4 cups of it! Ah.. it was the perfect drink for the cold cold weather!

We sort of waited for the rain to die down before heading out. Oh I forgot to tell you, so we went to the information desk before heading to the hostel. The lady that helped us check out what's there to do in Lucerne told us that Eurail pass holders are free to take the bus! <3 We were so happy when we heard this! At least we didn't need to walk all the time!!!!

For dinner, we decided to follow one of the recommendations part of my research. It was a blog I found and the person was saying that there's this place that there this resto which was a hole in the wall. So the girls and I wanted to check it out!

Uh... We went inside and it was the total opposite! :| :| :| It was more of fancy dining!!!! Huhu.

We were all so shocked with the prices!!!! :| We were thinking of doing carb overload but then it wouldn't be right cause we weren't in Lucerne for the typical dishes. We were there to try typical Swiss dishes.

In the end, we decided to get one dish and just split it into three! BUT, there was more expenses! :| Apparently, in Switzerland there's this rule that a dish is considered to be for one person. If and if another person shares that dish, the other person will have to pay for cover charge (an extra plate) which is around 5CHF. So we had to do that @_@

I don't remember the name of the dish but it was really good! It had rosti (a flat cake which is made out of grated potatoes) and all sorts of meat. I wasn't aware of what was inside the pot cause I was too hungry to find out! Haha.

It had gravy on the side which tasted like mushroom soup!

Before leaving we wanted to say goodbye to the nice waitress that explained each dish to us (since all were in German). As we were walking to where she was serving, we saw the other side of the restaurant - the rich people place!

Too too fancy I tell you! They had an area that looked private and romantic at the same time.

We got home feeling sad about how high the taxes in Switzerland are. An international student like me is most affected because I was planning to buy chocolate and try different kinds of Swiss food! Guess I can't anymore :|
