Jour 50 - Swiss Sunday

October 9th, Sunday

Our last full day in Lucerne! We woke up to a free Korean breakfast! I don't quite know what we ate but it tasted really good! Rice and egg! <3 And milk tea of course! :)

We also had soup with cute letters at the bottom.

We were happy to find out that the weather forecast for the day was wrong. Instead of showers, it was just cloudy! :)

Our first stop was to see the Dying Lion Monument.

How cute is this? :)

..and this!

..and this!!

Switzerland is known to be a very safe country.. now I know why! Hahaha

We got to this garden and..

The Dying Lion Monument  was here! :)

This monument was commemorated the Swiss guards who were massacred in 1792 during the French Revolution. It's actually known as the "most mournful and moving piece of stone in the world."

After, we passed by a fondue resto and told ourselves that if ever we don't find the famous fondue place we'll go back here.

Since it was Sunday, most shops were closed again :| So we just had to bear with the shops that were open.

The Chapel Bridge.

We decided to go around the old town and to the Chapel Bridge area. While we were walking and taking picture of the Chapel Bridge, the lens cap of Kwi's camera fell into the water!!!!! @_@ We were both screaming! Good thing there were swans and they kept on moving so the lens cap slowly went to the edge and she was able to get it back!!!

Switzerland is known to have 0% crime rate. Check out how people leave their bikes! They super trust their fellow countrymen!!

We got to the center of the town and seemed like there was some kind of celebration! People were betting (?) in something! It seemed to me like there was a little fair around the town.

The smell of sausages was too fragrant that I had to go to the stand and get one!

The girls and I tried the Cervalet - this is Swiss national sausage. :) It was soo good, it actually tasted like Polska Kielbasa.

Check this out: this carousel is maneuvered manually!

It was past lunch already and wanted to look for the famous fondue place but the area of shops was closed :( :(

...So we ended up going back to the fondue place we saw!

When we got inside, the girls and I had the same feeling. The incredibly high prices again @_@

Being paupers, we were just able to order two dishes. This is Berner Rosti, which was basically potatoes, ham, bacon and cheese. Verdict: the rosti was really tasty! It was salty which made me want to eat more of it!

The other dish was cheese fondue.

Verdict: this cheese fondue wasn't so good @_@ The cheese had a beer taste to it which I wasn't used to, most especially Aira! Haha. Oh and I think the typical bread they serve around Lucerne is hard, really not my type.

The girls wanted to get dessert afterwards - Kwi with her Swiss chocolate while Aira with the cookies-flavored ice cream.

After lunch, we decided to take the boat around Lake Lucerne. Since we were all Eurail pass holders, we were able to have a free boat ride! :) The area beside the port of our boat had a little carnival beside. This huge slide looked so awesome!!!

We rode this little boat that would take us around Lake Lucerne for about an hour.

The water of the lake is so clean!!!!

And the view is just breathtaking!

We were sitting beside this lady named Kareen and was so kind enough to allow me to stay in her seat (since her seat would give me a better view of the outside). Aside from that, she was so friendly by explaining the places, mountains we would see from the outside.

It was so cute to see her mom and her bond in the boat :D

That one hour tour really wasn't enough! The things I saw were just so nice and staying on the boat is a such a relaxing way to explore Lucerne.

This is Mount Pilatus, legend has it that this is where Pontius Pilate was buried.

Super old school :P

After the boat ride, I asked the girls if they wanted to try Kafi Schnaps - it's Swiss coffee with Schnaps (liquor) in it.

Uh..good thing the three of us just split one cause it tasted badddddd! HAHAHAHA.

Since the only place for us to buy chocolates was at the supermarket in the train station, we quickly went inside. We went inside Migros. We were in chocolate heaven when we saw cheap chocolate! The advice of Kareen was to look at the picture of the chocolate bar. If it looks appetizing, then we should buy it. So that's what we did! We had a few CHFs left and we didn't want to exchange back anymore so we made sure that we bought chocolate bars that would fit our budget :)

We still had time to spare before our 20:58 train to Basel. We went back to the hostel to have dinner. This is what paupers have for dinner - terrine and mackarel @_@

While eating dinner, a guy started talking to us. He was telling us that he's also on exchange here in Europe. He's from Singapore and he's studying a semester in Holland. The conversation went on and on until he mentioned that there's this thing called blind booking. In here, you book a ticket but you're not sure where you're going. All you know is that it fits the type of traveling you want (e.g. culture, party, historical, etc). Apparently, that's what he did for his trip in Switzerland. He was booked to go to Zurich but then he wanted to stay a few more days in Switzerland so he went to Lucerne. What an awesome adventurer! He said if ever we're in Singapore, we should just contact him so we can all meet up. Haha another friend from Singapore!

We went back to the train station but something happened! Dun dun dun! Watch the video to find out!

When we were moving to the very front of the train, the girls and I had to swallow our salivas! We were passing by coaches full of military men (yes, German men in uniform) and it was such a lovely sight! HAHAHAHAHA

Finally in the right train! HAHA

The regional train from Basel to Mulhouse Ville was scary. We literally had no kasama in the train. :|

We got to Mulhouse Ville and we had to do another camp out in the train station. Good thing we saw one of the SNCF workers and he showed us to the waiting area. When we got there, there was a hobo sleeping. :| He was speaking to us in French but we still pretended that he didn't exist. After some time, he left the room! YEYYYYY. We were safe! While Kwi and I slept, Aira stayed up and watched our things. Aira was so paranoid the whole time that every time she sees a shadow outside, she breathes in deeply (Kwi and I would wake up to the sound of it). But bottom line, we were all safe and we rode earliest train back to Paris.
